Kamal and Salim Padiyath received National Award for Perumazhakkaalam for the best film on social issues for the year 2004.
Perumazakkalam by Kamal is a poignant tale of Raziya (Meera Jasmine) who goes to great lengths to save her husbands life, partly based on real life incidents that has happened in the Gulf.
 
Perumazhakkaalam in the competition section of IFFI

Malayalam feature film 'Perumazhakkalam,' will represent India in the competition section of the Indian Panorama of the 36th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), to be held at Goa from November 24 to December 4.

The juries of the feature and non-feature films further decided that 'Perumazhakkalam, also a Malayalam film directed by Kamal, and 'Iqbal', produced by Subhash Ghai and directed by Nagesh Kuknoor, will represent India in the competition section of the IFFI.

The objective of the Indian Panorama, an integral part of the IFFI, is to select feature and non-feature films of cinematic, thematic and aesthetic excellence for the promotion of film art through non-profit screenings of these films in the IFFI as also in Indian Film Weeks held under various cultural and specialised Indian film festival exchange programmes abroad.

 
MACTA News
As the general secretary of MACTA he is also very much involved in its activities. Macta is now very seriously conducting campaigns against video audio piracy which is growing dangerously. As part of this Macta along with other cinema related organizations met the chief minister of Kerala and demanded effective actions to prevent piracy.
